Maquoketa: Adventure Iowa

John and I went for a little jaunt in Maquoketa, Ia. After briefly panicking when Garmin lead us astray on to a VERY unkept road, we arrived relatively unscathed at a little piece of paradise. The caves were beautiful, cool and dare I say – rugged. Here is what I took from the day. I published a photo essay with captions in the Little Village this month. Check it out. I don't think it's on the interweb..... but find it in print at many Iowa City locations.

New Collaborative Project Pics

Here are so initial images from the collaborative project my two beautiful friends and I have started.

Back story: The lovely Maggie Voss and I headed out one day with a fist full of inflated balloons and a polarizing filter – those photos are on the way. We soon realized that the photos had narrative potential and invited our friend the wicked sexy Nelle Dunlap to jump into the story as well as the creative process. We are using all of our respective skills to put together a beautiful story of making your way in the world, greed and the treacherous path we take. The story and meanings are evolving as the time passes. Enjoy the still images to start. Eventually there will be a website, animation and a book at the hands of Maggie and Nelle.

Also, these are RAW images. No retoughing yet. Just wanted to put them out there.

Jefferson, IA and the state's amazing clouds

My mom drove me around on Sat. and I shot a bunch of cloud pics out in the country. I also bought some awesome mud boots... so now I'm unstoppable.

New-fangled barn

This is what a new barn looks like. They've lost a little charm but they have motorized garage doors. The pioneers would have been impressed.

This is a continuation of the barns I shot for the Little Village. I stopped at this barn on a whim. I drove up to the house and the owner immediately came out and showed me around the old barn, which housed a new momma dog and her litter of puppies. He advised that I didn't get too close.
